I Saw The TV Glow

I watched this the other night and it really got me thinking about transitioning, and how it won’t come for some people. It’s not easy, but pushing off the feeling of wanting and needing to transition is possible. Pretending that you are okay with how you appear and how you feel isn’t impossible, but it’s also not worth it.

We are all taught that we have to live life a certain way, and that depending on whether we are male or female, we have certain expectations in life that we are told we must follow through with. Because that’s what ‘you’re supposed to do’.

But forcing yourself to live a life that isn’t true to those around you but most importantly, not true to you, is not a life worth living.

I had a quote from one of my favorite Alice In Chains songs tattoed on me back in 2017 that I still stand by today. “If I can’t be my own, I’d feel better dead”. Because to me, and to many other transgender people, living a lie, is not worth living at all.
